Teen Sessions.
Ages 12-17
Breathing Together.
Teens are under an unprecidentanted amount of pressure. The mental healthcare struggles of our teens across the nation paints a bleak picture of what it is to try to navigate life while also navigating all that comes with pubery, young adulthood, and the expectation that teenagers should be able to pick a career path. It is asking to much of any group of people but teens are particularly vulnerable due to their rapidly changing physiology. Teen sessions will focus on what my teen breathing students indicate they need. This can range from managing anxiety to dealing with issues of consent and feeling empowered. I am also strongly considering offering classes specifically for students who identify as male, students who identify as female, and possibly a session set aside specifically for teens who are exploring their gender identity or sexuality. My goal is to provide a safe space for the teens in our community to learn about mindfulness, breathwork, and building community.
What to Expect.
Teen sessions will be as unique as the teens attending. I will still greet everyone at the door and there will be a prompt to think about as everyone gets settled. However, these sessions will last an hour. This is to give everyone time to express what they need or want to get out of the session and for me to add those things into our session. We will also have longer to breath together to make sure everyone leaves with a really good handle on the practical aspects of the techniques we are learning. After we are done with our breathwork we will also have a longer time to share. Everyone who participates in a teen session will have to agree, out loud in the group, that they will hold eachother in this sacred space and that nothing ever leaves our circle. This holding of space is important in every breathwork I do, but I will make especially sure everyone in is agreement before we start a teen session.
