Big Kid Session.

Ages 6-11

Breathing Together.

Big Kid Sessions look a lot like the little kid sessions as far as the format but the way we approach breathing gets a little more sophisticated. Some of these sessions will have predetermined themes and some sessions will be open to what the students need that day based on our opening conversation. The goal of these sessions is to work on a single breathing technique each session. Ultimately the idea is to give these kids tools, that they understand how to use really well, to help regulate their emotions as they deal with getting older and all that comes with that. If we are working on a particularly tricky technique or students ask to do a follow up lesson we will definitely spend more time on that technique. My mission for our adolecent “big” kids is to make them feel empowered!

What to Expect.

Like in an adult session I will meet these kids at the door and direct them to where our session will take place. I will have an activity or prompt for them to work on or think about while we wait for everyone to arrive and get settled. Once everyone is settled we will talk about what the theme is for the session or we will talk about the activity that I asked everyone to do and using that we will build a theme. Then I will describe the breathing technique we are going to be learning. Once we have all had a chance to try it out I will turn the music on, lead a short meditation to help everyone let go of whatever else is on their mind and we will start breathing together. Once we are done with our breathing we will give ourselves a bit of a shake and come back to the space. Then we will have an opportunity to discuss what we felt or learned. The kids will be invited to tell me what worked for them and what they would like to change. I know I said it above, but I bares repeating, my ultimate goal is to empower these kids through their breath and that includes giving them permission and a safe space to share whatever they need to, even negative things.
